Conservatives who support religion (specifically Christianity) in public schools, is this a fair compromise?

In my school district, which my niece is enrolled at, Elementary schools hold holiday/ winter parties where they make snow flakes, snow men, they can make stocking, play with a dreidel, learn about the different holidays of the season, there are Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and winter sugar cookies, they also have chip pretzels and other snacks. It recognizes all of the holidays of the season and the time of year but respects all students. So, what is the problem? Why does it matter if there is no organized Christian prayer, teaching or any other prayer for that matter? The schools still allow Christmas recognition.

Lousy Hanukkah Gifts

Hanukkah: literally “The Festival of Eight Sub Par Gifts” in English. It’s the thought that counts, right? Sure, why not? Is the tradition of Hanukkah dying?

I am just wondering because the Hanukkah category has a new question every couple of hours while the Christmas category has a new question every couple of minutes. It just seems like Hanukkah is being ignored or something.

If it is, I can see why. Nobody in my family is really religious anymore. We celebrate Hanukkah, Passover, and Rosh Hashanah. My grandmother makes hamantaschen cookies for Purim. However, we never go to temple and I feel as though the traditions will start to fade once the elders in the family pass away. I am not a very religious person myself. We even have a Hanukkah bush for the children in the family and to be honest I don’t oppose. I love the spirit of Christmas. In the end, I believe in God but other than celebrating the holidays with the family I don’t really classify with a specific religion.

Does anyone remember holiday cookies with a fun name sold at department stores?

I can’t remember if it was Woolworth’s or Montgomery Ward, or even maybe another store, but there were these really good sugar-like cookies with a fun name that were sold at the mall near my house during the holidays when I was a kid. Just trying to remember what they were!
