Fried Christmas Cookies (Krostule) from Chef Klara Cvitanovich

One of Yugoslavias memorable Christmas treats is Krostule. A fried pastry that some say is the ethnic ancestor to New Orleans famed Beignets. The Krostule batter begins with six whole eggs.

Christmas Cookie Candles, part 1.wmv

Part 1….The ingredients and supplies needed. Actual construction is in part two (stupid 10 minute limit!). These are easy, no-bake, fairly fast, and much more impressive in person. Although I recall seeing a basic idea for these, I don’t know where I saw it. If you know, please let me know so I can credit them. If you use this idea, please credit me. Fundraisers okay, but not contests which should be “original” ideas. They would go great at a Cooky Walk, Bake Sale, or Holiday Bazaar.

George Strait’s Christmas Cookies singing frog animation

Frog creation in windows paint – animation done live using the circle/elipse tool. Song is Christmas Cookies by George Strait Everyone labeling the joyful laughter and sing-alongs in the back ground as noise is missing the point. This video is about childrens’ creativity and laughter – not about production quality video or the great song. There are better places to get that. So if background noise and shaky camera work offends you, skip this video. If you enjoy hearing giggles, this is a good video to watch.

Is the tradition of Hanukkah dying?

I am just wondering because the Hanukkah category has a new question every couple of hours while the Christmas category has a new question every couple of minutes. It just seems like Hanukkah is being ignored or something.

If it is, I can see why. Nobody in my family is really religious anymore. We celebrate Hanukkah, Passover, and Rosh Hashanah. My grandmother makes hamantaschen cookies for Purim. However, we never go to temple and I feel as though the traditions will start to fade once the elders in the family pass away. I am not a very religious person myself. We even have a Hanukkah bush for the children in the family and to be honest I don’t oppose. I love the spirit of Christmas. In the end, I believe in God but other than celebrating the holidays with the family I don’t really classify with a specific religion.
