Any ideas for simple cookie recipes that can be prepared with few ingredients?

I found out very last minute that a friend is having a housewarming/birthday party this evening. I figured it’d be nice to get her a serving dish for her new house and fill it with some homemade cookies, however I am very, very limited in ingredients.

I have:
-Butter
-White granulated sugar
-Brown sugar
-Ground cinnamon
-Whole wheat flour
-Baking powder
-Eggs
-Milk
-Salt
-Vanilla
-M&M’s
-Chopped walnuts

I was thinking Snickerdoodles but, unfortunately, I do not have any cream of tartar and most recipes call for that.

Any ideas?

why do so many cookie recipes call for lemon juice and lemon zest?

ok so i have never been a fan of lemon in my pastries. so why do so many recipes call for lemon zest? im looking through a cookie cookbook and all the recipes call for lemon zest and/or lemon juice. but why? if i make it like the recipe says will it taste like lemon? or does the lemon act as some sort of balancing ingredient to balance out the sugar and butter or what not?
